BAND CONCERT OFFERS JOURNEY BACK IN TIME

March 18, 2010 (Greenville, SC) – It’s a bit like stepping back in time – the antique instruments, the uniforms and of course, the music. On Sunday, May 16 at

“We’ve got an all-new line up and some great soloists this year,” said Moore, speaking of the band’s third appearance at the popular downtown venue in as many years.

Like the mill bands of a century ago, the Textile Heritage Band will present a varied program with a little something for everyone – popular songs, patriotic marches, rags and even a little blues. Featured soloists will include Amanda Barrett on piccolo and Seth Custer on saxophone, both members of the Bob Jones University woodwind faculty, and the band’s own Rob Schoolfield playing his ever-popular 1917 xylophone.

About the band: The Greenville Textile Heritage Band is a unique ensemble dedicated to preserving textile history and contributing to the arts in Upstate South Carolina. Patterned after the town bands found in many of Greenville’s own textile mill villages during the early 1900s, the band uses authentic period instruments, repertoire, and costuming to communicate the historical and cultural significance of the textile industry to a new generation in a tangible and engaging way. The band was founded in August 2007 by Dr. Michael W. Moore and has since played numerous engagements at various cultural, civic, and private events throughout the Upstate.
