Parker School DistrictDuring the early years of the last century, textile plants like: Dunean, Woodside, F.W. Poe, Union Bleachery, Brandon, Poisett, American Spinning, Judson, Mills Mill and Monaghan, employed over 5,000 people who lived primarily on each mill’s respective village. The mills had attracted the employees from the poor living conditions on farms and in the mountains of the southeastern regions of the United States. To attract and keep these workers, the mills instituted welfare initiatives which included recreation, socialization, and education.
